Import and export a session

Session transfer lets you preserve or share a complete research workspace without changing the original. A transferred session can include its chats, shared sources, artifacts, phase history, and related research state.

Export a session

1. Open Explorer and select the session you want to export.

2. In Session Detail, select Export.

3. Wait while Theo prepares the package. Your browser downloads a file ending in .theo.

4. Store or share the file carefully. It contains the research state needed to recreate the session.

Import a session

1. Open Explorer and select Import session beside New session.

2. Drop a .theo file into the dialog or select Choose file.

3. Theo checks the file signature before creating anything.

4. When the import completes, open the new session from your session list. It is a separate copy owned by the importing user; the original session is unchanged.

Important transfer notes

• An export is signed for authenticity but is not currently encrypted. Anyone who receives the file can read its contents, so treat it like other sensitive research data.

• An imported copy preserves the original session timestamps, so it may not appear at the top of a list sorted by recent activity.

• Only import .collabsession files from a trusted source. If an import fails, confirm that the file is a valid export from a compatible Theo Collaborator deployment.
